CARE GUIDE
In order to preserve the quality of your purchase, we recommend caring for your products using the following guidelines:
ACCESSORIES
STRAW HATS
Storage - Store the hat in a cool dry place away from direct sunlight. We recommend that you store the hat on its crown instead of the brim since storing a hat on its brim will cause it to change shape.
Cleaning - Clean your straw hat with a soft bristled brush.
Handling - Straw hats are made of natural toquilla straw in Ecuador. The material is delicate so handing the hat by its brim is recommended as the oils in our hands can dry out the straw and cause it to crack over time.
Maintenance - We recommend you steam your hat a couple of times a year (steam more often if you're in dry climate) to keep the straw moist and prevent it from drying out, which can lead to cracking. You can use a handheld steamer or hold the hat over a pot of steaming water -- we recommend using oven mitts to prevent a steam burn. To steam the hat, place the hat on it's crown and start by steaming the inside of the crown and making your way out to the brim. If the brim is misshapen, you can gently mend it with your hands as you steam it.
Water - We do not recommend you wear the hat in the rain as water can cause the straw to soften and change shapes.
WOOL HATS
Storage - Store the hat in a cool dry place away from direct sunlight. We recommend that you store the hat on its crown instead of the brim since storing a hat on its brim will cause it to change shape.
Cleaning - Brush the hat with a soft bristle brush counter clock-wise to remove surface dirt. Stubborn lint is easily removed with a lint roller. We recommend brushing or lint rolling once a week if used regularly.
Stains - Blot the stain with a slightly damp white cloth until all the moisture is absorbed. Use a white cloth so no dye transfers to the hat. Spray the stain with a natural upholstery cleaner. We recommend Folex Carpet Spot Remover. For more severe stains, we suggest taking your hat to a local hat repair shop.
Creasing - Stubborn creases can be smoothed out by steaming the area. You can use a handheld steamer or hold the hat over a pot of steaming water -- we recommend using oven mitts to prevent a steam burn.
Water - If your wool hat gets wet, allow it to dry naturally, do not blow dry it.
LEATHER
Conditioning and cleaning - Clean your leather piece regularly using a light colored cloth. For a deep clean, use a leather conditioner every 6 months. This will also help keep the leather soft and prevent cracking. We recommend Chamberlain’s Leather Milk Conditioner & Cleaner.
Stains - The sooner you catch a stain the easier it is to treat. First things first, you'll want to absorb most of the stain on a white clean cloth. Allow it to dry and follow by gently brushing the stain with a nubuck brush. Water stains will show up dark on the leather but will fade away once fully dried. In most cases, these do not need to be treated. For stubborn stains, see a leather specialist. Storage - Keep out of direct sunlight. Store in a dry place.
SUEDE
Conditioning & Cleaning - We do not recommend spot cleaning as this may cause staining. Clean with a nubuck/suede brush regularly. Lint roll to remove stubborn lint. If using a suede specific cleaner we recommend testing a small hidden section of the bag first. For stubborn stains, see a suede specialist. Storage - Keep out of direct sunlight. Store in a dry place.
OBJECTS
ALPACA BLANKETS
Washing - Machine wash with cold water on a gentle cycle. Tumble dry on low heat.
Stains - As soon as a stain occurs, blot the area and absorb the liquid as best as possible. Wash the blanket immediately to prevent the stain from settling into the fibers.
Maintaining - Alpaca is just like hair and can get a little frizzy over time. To restore your blanket to its original glory, brush the blanket in the direction of the fibers with a soft bristled brush. Follow by ironing in the same direction.
RUGS
We highly recommend using a rug pad with our rugs. It will help preserve your rug better and keep it in place. Vacuum with a suction-only setting regularly. For stains, use a natural cleaner (like this one).
